5 Basics Every Woman Needs in Her Wardrobe
Before we get started, hi, I’m Abby Wager! I’m a junior at Notre Dame studying English, Journalism, and Marketing, and I've been interning with Frankly over my extended winter break. I’ve been a 34DD since I was 16, so I am stoked to be working with a “ditch the bra, all boobs welcome" brand like Frankly. I am excited today to share with you what I believe to be the five basics every woman needs in their wardrobe.
It can be challenging to put together an outfit, especially if you have the wrong pieces. Add the fact that the fashion world is constantly changing and evolving, with new trends coming and going. Sometimes, it is difficult to figure out what pieces are worth owning. But instead of just buying a new wardrobe every season, consider investing in a few staple items. This way, you’ll actually wear what you own, and can style upward from the basics depending on the season and trends.
1. A little black dress
The little black dress is a true throw-on-and-go item, and should be a staple in every woman's closet. From last minute date night to work party to night out with the girls, a LBD works like a charm every time.
Check out our black Charlee dress if you’re looking for a new LBD to add to your closet.
2. Good Denim
Jeans are an everyday item that can be worn on many different occasions, and every woman needs a trusty pair waiting for her in her closet. Jeans never go out of style. They can be easily added to and accessorized for a more fun look.
We love supporting other women-owned brands, so if you’re on a search for a new pair of jeans, check out the selection at The Helm. They’re a women-owned clothing company who believes that choosing between fit and comfort is non-negotiable, just like Frankly.
3. Basic tees
Basic tees work perfectly for a base to be used for layering. Pair it with denim jeans or shorts in the summer or a jacket in the winter.

4. A classic blazer
The nice thing about a blazer is that it is one of the easiest ways to make an outfit look dressed up and professional. A classic blazer immediately brings you from casual to ready to meet up with your boss for lunch. Elevate your look by adding fun shoes or a handbag.
M.M.LaFleur, a woman-owned brand empowering women to succeed, sells clothes for the young professional (blazers included).
5. A sturdy sweater
Feeling lazy and wanting to dress comfy, but sweats aren’t an option? Solution: a sweater. Pair it with leggings or jeans and you’ll immediately look like you put in more effort than you really did.
Donni works with women-owned factories in Los Angeles and also supports different non-profits every season. Check out their sweater selection.
